The Cosmic Ray Observatory
has been a unique landmark
in New Edinburgh for almost a century.
The building is currently
being transformed into
two unique residential spaces.
The first of the two units, located
at 253 Mackay Street, Ottawa,
has now been completed
.

THE PROJECT

From the outset our guiding principle was to preserve the integrity and character of the structure which has unique architectural features.

The front of the building was left intact, despite some temptations to install large openings.

Openings were cut in the other walls to accommodate windows, doors and the solarium.

The only structural changes inside are the construction of the mezzanine and a new partition for the master bedroom.

The original brick walls are exposed. The original steel doors were restored and re-used.
